We are a new organization so we'd like to take a moment to introduce ourselves: our mission is to promote the equitable treatment of animals through advocacy, education, rescue, and adoptions.
For over a decade, I've been involved with wonderful organizations doing amazing work, however it often seemed like I had to make a choice: advocating for domestic animals or advocating for wildlife. Because I'm passionate about both, I decided to create an organization dedicated to helping the animals we share our homes with, as well as the animals who we share our environment with (see diagram below).
Wild animals play a vital role in the ecosystem and the fact that they are often looked at as "nuisance animals" or "pests" is wrong. They are neither. Now, that doesn't mean we'll be placing raccoons up for adoption, but it does mean we'll educate the public; by helping to determine fact from fiction, shattering myths, and providing tools to effectively and compassionately coexist with our wild neighbors.
As for the wonderful animals who will be available for adoption, we'll primarily be transferring from county-run facilities. We don't have a physical location yet so we'll utilize foster homes. However our goal is to have a location in the not-too-distant future.
Please explore our website (we're new so there's lots more to come!), "Like" us on Facebook, and be sure to sign up for our newsletter.
With your support, we're going to make Florida a better place for all animals.
Thank you.
With Gratitude,
Dina Athanassie
